SOLID BUMP RECORDS

It’s been a little quiet around these parts the last few months. As you may know from other post, Clayton and I have put Solid Bump and White Girl Lust on a short hiatus to start a new project entitled Say Again with our longtime collaborator Alona. You can check out some of the early Say Again results here.

Behind the scene, we have built up a new studio and been churning on a slew of jams that will be released this summer officially re-launching Solid Bump (including vinyl finally!!!).

Leading up to this, I hope to post up some video scenes from the new studio with little tastes of the new material as we do the final recordings.

For now, check out these couple tips and tricks I found on Synthmania. The gear and techniques used is semi-similar to  parts of our revamped studio. Our Nerd Alert columns were some of our most popular – so maybe some of you will be into these.

As stated in the last post from a few months ago, it is seemingly quiet on the home front of SBR. And in some regards that is correct. In the last few months Clay and Eric of White Girl Lust have shifted their attention temporarily off of Solid Bump to really invest in their own music again. Running even the smallest label in a total DIY fashion is a time consuming endeavor.

Last summer we found ourselves more inspired to work on music than we had been in a long time. We had reinvested in some of our favorite classic synths and drum machines, rebuilt a new studio space, and found ourselves really inspired by the dance music scene as a whole in 2011.

Now six months later this inspiration is finally culminating as Say Again with long time collaborator Alona Esposito. We have our first EP of demos wrapping up which will lead into an official launch of Say Again in late winter 2012.

However, the first fruits of our labor are actually being released in only a few weeks on the notorious Gomma Records. The remix package is of Moullinex’s Modular Jam and features some great works from the likes of Justin Faust, Earl Grey (an alias of Danny from the C-90s), Worship, and ourselves as Say Again. 

Our mix digs it’s heel in a tad deeper into the house and exposes our penchant for 80′s Roland gear and 12 bit drum samplers. We are pretty excited about this one!

Heavy production from all at solid bump in the month of March. Here is the proof! Check out the recent post at Lazy Day Lounge featuring Chicago’s Gary Shruggs aka “Adulture” as he gives a peak into his personal production methods. It’s a world of cats, cigarettes, and rotosound flat wound bass strings all contributing to the sultry disco funk that Adulture is known for producing.

These internets are a wild place. Oh, the people you meet and random e-buddies you make. Toronto’s Mix Chopin is one such person – and he happens to be a stellar up & coming producer/DJ.

He will be contributing a remix to the forthcoming official release of Ghost of Venice’s single, “Her”. For now here is a recent mix, in which he features a slew of Solid Bump material. We edited his artwork for all the NSFW posse. Track listing after the jump!
