Diamond Lights “What Have You” EP

Last week we posted up that Bag Raiders had included a new White Girl Lust remix of Diamond Lightst on their latest mixtape. The timing was perfect as Yes Yes Records dropped the full EP today with additionall remixes from C.R.S.T., Isaac Tichauer, and a VIP Diamond Lights reworking.

The general vibe of this is a early 90′s hands in the air feel with soaring Strings of Life-esqe chords. Each remix retains that vibe consistently,  all while adding their own twist on the era-centric sound.

Yes Yes Records has quickly became a favorite label at SBR HQ. Their sound is impeccable as is their in-house roster. Additionally with previous remixes from Todd Edwards, Azari & III, and many other great names – it is truly a label to watch.

Preview it below and buy it exclusively at Beatport.

Cajmere and Gene Farris’ The Music Box

We get a good number of demo submissions here at SBR HQ. And no hate but most are really just drums that sample far too much of mediocre disco songs. In fact most usually sound like 128 mp3 files. With the progression of Ableton in the last 5+ years the simplicity and ease of sampling makes this 100% expected. It’s certainly not like the cost (and emotional energy) of buying an Akai S900 in the days of yore and actually digging through crates to unearth that random 4 bars that would make a tune… But no hate… swear.

Good music can be made with anything and be done anywhere. However, I will say most of what we get sounds a bit lazy. Enter Cajmere and Gene Farris. Well, it is much less an entrance than a history lesson. Cajmere (a.k.a. Green Velvet) has been doing this style since it’s beginning and his label, Cajual was one of the labels that gave birth to this style. Gene Farris is certainly no noob either. Check his discogs just to see – if you do not know.

That beings said, after a few tunes from Curtis Jones that were not up my alley recently, I was THRILLED to see Gene’s name on this record. Could it be? Is there a chance that they called on the old Chi-Town mojo? The answer is simply yes. And we at SBR could not be more thrilled. Hats off to a couple of the pioneers.

Dust Traxx “The Shape of House to Come”

Dust Traxx is an infamous Chicago house label that was once home to Paul Johnson, Robert Armani, and many many more. The last few years has seen the label go a bit quiet compared to their peak in the late 90′s and early 2000′s. Enter Adulture (formerly of Le Principle) to save the day.

A few months ago Adulture took the reigns of the Dust Traxx relaunch. At first it may seem odd, that the young talent be put in charge of such a historic label, but his balance of knowing fresh new artist in the vein of the previous DT legacy and an honest respect for it’s heritage really makes him the perfect candidate.

The Shape of House to Come is the perfect compilation to the announce the new era of Dust Traxx, with some of the best new names in house as well as legends such as Dajae. Many Solid Bump affiliates are represented here, including Ghosts of Venice, White Girl Lust, Alona, and Adulture himself.

Ghosts of Venice “Her” – Out Now!

In stores now!

Lee Dunn (better known as Ghosts of Venice) has had a big year. After self-releasing his “I Learned From The Best” EP, he quickly caught the attention of the A&R teams at Defected, Strictly Rhythm, Dust Traxx, and of course, Solid Bump Records. In the months to follow he has lent his passion for jacked up Disco House to a slew of official remixes including Grum’s “Can’t Shake This Feeling” and James Talk & Ridney’s massive Ibiza summer anthem “Forever”. Solid Bump is proud to debut his first commercially available original track entitled “Her”. The song serves as a homage to the long days of a summer passed, with a highly swung laidback groove that keeps in perfect tow with the signature sound of Solid Bump.

The remix selection is a showcase of the exciting talent Solid Bump has in store in 2011, with a large portion of the label’s roster lending their spin on the single. White Girl Lust completely re-imagines the original as an epic piano house burner, complete with vocals from Alona. Chicago’s Bit Funk glosses the tune with his distinct synth-pop sheen. Meanwhile, Mix Chopin lives up to his name with a lively cut & paste session. The release is rounded out by the low-key vibes of Mykill & Meroz.

Ghosts of Venice Mega Blast

PHEW, What a month the last one has been for Solid Bump. We went full steam ahead on releasing Adulture & OCD Automatic’s Paper Cat and our efforts were not in vain. The release was featured as a “Nu-Disco You Must Hear” choice on Beatport which led to it charting at #20. Meanwhile Turntable Lab gave it a rave review leading to a #2 chart spot. And the release was big in Japan, hitting #1 on Wasabeat. So, what is next?

Ghosts of Venice has been seeping into the mind waves of dancefloor patrons since his free release I Learned From the Best backed with Her. The single immediately caught the attention of multiple labels and was quickly removed from free share sites. I Learned From the Best was quickly scooped up by a yet to be announced MOSTER label in the UK. Solid Bump snatched up Her which will finally drop late next month.

The release will feature a re-working of the original by GOV as well as remixes from White Girl Lust, Bit Funk, Mix Chopin, and Meroz & Mykill. More info on that soon. Let’s see what GOV has been working on below including a special preview of a Ridney remix.

Paper Cat is out on the prowl – buy it today!

That’s right… at long last Paper Cat has dropped. This is a release that has had an epic amount of hype behind it, so without further ado, here is what the pros are saying…

“Solid Bump does it again! Adulture & OCD Automatic’s “Paper Cat” just kills it on that funky disco house tip, with a HUGE sound that’ll tear up the club. Seriously, everything is banging on this track from the filtered loop, the drums, synths, bass and arrangement, perfect stuff to mix in with any house or disco set. The original is already so good, but they decide to throw you some excellent remixes too including a wicked version from Fool’s Gold artist Sammy Bananas who adds some nice sax work(!) and Levan-style synths over the top taking it even higher! Don’t forget to check the chilled out Bit Funk remix and the amped up and beat-repeated Phantom’s Revenge remix as well. Recommended.”Turntable Lab Editors

“This is nastyyyyyyy… summer vibes gone wild!”Drop The Lime (Trouble & Bass)

“Man that’s great! I played the Sammy Bananas Mix of Paper Cat – nice one!” Stretch Armstrong (Plant Music)

“Really nice EP, feeling the acid house vibe of the Bananas one the most, will def give that a play!”
- Matt Walsh (Clouded Vision)

“Somewhere between Pryda and Bangalter, this release is as timeless, soulful, and as fresh sounding as anything I’ve heard this year.” Emynd (Crossfaded Bacon)

“I love it. Been running the original version in all my sets. Sammy’s mix is definitely next level though.”Thee Mike B
