Good friend of Solid Bump and New York, Free Magic, just released a crushing disco mix for Voules Random. His mixes are always clean and funk driven, and this one will keep you moving all through the summer. Check it out and be sure to listen close for the upcoming remix by Bit Funk, of Ghost’s of Venice’s track ‘Her’.
I have a lot of San Francisco pride. If you have read any of the below interviews with White Girl Lust, a huge source of inspiration comes from dirty bird. Although our sounds are a bit different, the way that the db team has built an internationally recognized brand is a big inspiration to how we try to present SBR. They have built a foundation around a core group of like minded musicians who often collaborate in a lot of different ways. They infused a sense of humor in tech-house, a genre which can undoubtedly take it’s self too seriously far too often. They have a distinct sound as well as a visual aesthetic that is memorable. These are all things we have also tried to do with Solid Bump as it builds and grows.
All fan boy-ism aside, when I heard Justin Martin had done this weeks BBC Essential Mix – I was proud. I don’t follow sports and hardly understand the fan mentality but I imagine this is what it feels like when your home team goes to the world series. I don’t know this dude personally on any level but god-dammit – he is the hometown team and Essential Mix is the championships. Congrats dood.
Carte Blanche (a.k.a Mehdi & Riton) have set off the start to their North American tour and reports are flooding in that their 4 turntable, 1 Pioneer CDJ, 1 TR-909 sets are MURDERING dancefloors. Thus we could not be more hyped for the SF show July 2nd at Mezzanine.
Shane King and White Girl Lust got together and compiled a 22 minute mix featuring selected tunes from all the artist involved – just to get you a taste of what to expect. We also included the debut of the full vocal version of White Girl Lust’s remix of Ghost’s of Venice “Her” featuring Alona. She will be joining White Girl Lust that night at the end of his DJ set to debut some more forth coming tracks. Expect some extra surprises in tow for that performance.
With the help of our new homie David, we finally set up Solid Bump and White Girl Lust Resident Advisor pages. To kick it off we put together a Top 10. One thing that is lame about Top 10′s is having to track down all the songs to see if you even like them. Well, look no further, we have decided to do accompanying mixes on Soundcloud that include all the tracks.
All these tracks except the SBR exclusives are on Beatport. Support good new music and keep your eyes peeled for the ‘Her’ and ‘Paper Cat’ dropping on SBR this summer!
Normally we are pretty strategic in out post but… this live set from the beloved Danilo Plessow project – Motor City Drum Ensemble just came to our attention. LISTEN. It’s that simple. Best there is at the moment.
Two friends of SBR sent through stellar mixes last week, the first comes from former SFC super DJ Vin Sol. The second from our pal in Dallas DJ Sober alongside A1. Both are super funk rides while being totally different styles. The Dallas boys are repping well with a couple SBR tunes from Meroz and Laberge. Both make for perfect post-holiday listening at work.
One of our fave online radio shows has returned after a short hiatus. One Day Later has been hosted by U Tern for a whopping 66 episodes. It constantly breaks new music as well as revisits classic territory. Solid Bump approved.
Last week, the disco don of the bay area – Sergio, invited me (Eric from White Girl Lust) and Solid Bump on his weekly show on KALX 90.7fm. I dipped in for the last hour and played a slew of new material from the label and ran my flap periodically – thus displaying my quick witted banter and extremely loud voice. Sergio was cool enough to post up a Soundcloud link to the full show. You can peep the first 2 hours of Sergio’s funky collection of disco and funk. The Solid Bump mix starts at 120.00
You can catch Sergio at one of his many events in the SF area such as Go Bang and Machine.
The dudes from Le Principle didn’t even bother to tell me they had done a mix – I had to just stumble upon it. I am glad I did. What’s so fun for me about this mix is that it’s almost 100% straight house music and hardly any disco loops. No hatred on the two bar loop – but sometimes its nice to just hear a good jacking beat, chopped vocal, and SH101 bassline. I was shocked when I saw Miguel Migs in the mix too. Whoa!
Le Principle – Le Mix Vol.1 (Full Tracklist at Soundcloud)
Last month we posted Vol.1 of this mix series by Netherlands producer, Leonardus. This guy has been making some good noise with his productions the last year and you are sure to see the support from us. We were stoked to see that he included White Girl Lust’s Oui (featuring Alona) and Ghost of Venice’s Spiller Edit.
I couldn’t figure out how to do a embedded player – so click the above link!
