Interview with SF Weekly

Last Friday Hacksaw Ent. joined up with Solid Bump Records to present Carte Blanche (i.e. Mehdi & Riton). The show was top notch and featured an opening set from Shane King (half of Hacksaw’s team) followed by Eric from White Girl Lust. His set wrapped up with a short performance by SBR’s resident Diva – Alona who was accompanied by the Counter Culture Collective dancers for a full blown Burlesque style show.

We have full video we will be posting soon, but for now, read the interview from SF weekly to get a bit of the inside scoop about the full collaboration.

DJ Funk w/ White Girl Lust – San Francisco May 22nd

Whenever someone who was named in Daft Punk’s “Teachers” roll call plays – you should automatically attend. Well, this is one of those dudes. The king of booty house and the don of ghetto tech… DJ FUNK. If you are in the bay, you should be marking your calendar for May 22nd (next week) at Lights Down Low. Peep the Facebook page.

The first time I heard DJ Funk play was in the late 90s at a massive rave I was also playing at. These were pre-internet times when the only way to know what a DJ was about was through mixtapes or live sets. I had heard tales but didn’t really know what to expect. He came up to the turntables with nothing but an old suitcase and slapped it down on the table behind the decks. When he opened it, all that was in it was 100+ records, none of which were in sleeves. He started just grabbing tunes and launched a full on assault of raunchy booty clap complete with hood-tastic scratches. It was awesome.

Watch a selection of awesome You Tubes after the jump.

Medhi + Riton = Carte Blanche

Things have been busy at Solid Bump HQ. Meroz’s first EP is burning up the Turntable Lab and Juno charts. A new member of of the Solid Bump family made it’s way to Clayton’s life. Paper Cat masters are good to go. So that being said, Solid Bump has teamed up with Hacksaw Ent. to begin a series of Solid Bump sanctioned events in San Francisco. The first is a perfect fit.

Medhi of Ed Banger and Riton have teamed up to start a new act called Carte Blanche. While both are known for their more electro productions, the idea with this project is to get off the bangers and jack the house. That is totally a good sign that bumpity house music is coming back – which is the whole mission statement of Solid Bump.

July 2nd Carte Blanche will be touching down in San Francisco at Mezzanine. White Girl Lust will be opening up with a hybrid DJ/ live set along with Shane King of Hacksaw. We will let you know once tickets go on sale!

For now I highly recommend checking out this Carte Blanche mixtape. You can stream it here or directly download here.

White Girl Lust @ The Academy of Sciences in San Francisco 4/29

I know tonight’s free show with Telephoned at Harlot (RSVP HERE) – which  features a open bar from 8-10 – is going to be a most uncivilized affair – so tomorrow Eric from White Girl Lust will be bringing classy back.

The Academy of Science is a sight to see no matter what day it is, but Thursday nights they open op their doors to the 21+ crowd. Cocktails are on hand and funky music flows like the fishy waters. On any given Saturday, the place is filled with tourist, long lines, and screaming babies – so this is a chance to get all the awesome from the Academy without any problems.

The event happens from 6-10 this Thursday. Get the full scoop here.

Telephoned & Sammy Bananas at Harlot SF 4/28

Next week Solid Bump is hooking up with Hacksaw Ent. to host the SF debut of Telephoned (of Fools Gold Rec). If you don’t know Telephoned consist of Maggie Horn on vocals and Sammy Bananas on the beat. The two tear through live covers of everyone from T-Pain to Kid Sister. White Girl Lust will be doing a hybrid dj/live set – unveiling some new tracks with Alona on vocals. The #1 homie Shane King will be opening up the evening.

What is more, there is a free open bar from 7-10, so you know things will be slapping by the end of that session. We recommend calling in the next day.

Also, Sammy Bananas has done a remix for Le Principle and OCD Automatic’s HUGE Paper Cat single – forthcoming in June. The remix is OUT OF CONTROL – with a sultry vox drop and wailing sax. To tempt you here is a clip of the unmastered version.

Erol Alkan w/ White Girl Lust in San Francisco

This Wednesday night we celebrate the birthday’s of Sleazemore and Eric from White Girl Lust, with a very special guest at Infatuation – Erol Alkan making his San Francisco debut. For those that don’t know – Erol has been a very influential DJ over the last 8 years and in the course of history has remixed tracks for Hot Chip, Justice, The Klaxxons, and many more. Most recently he founded the stellar Phantasy Sound imprint. Join us over at Vessel – the night will also be supported by Shane King from Hacksaw Ent.
