Le Principle is DEAD! Free Download.

That is right, our beloved Le Principle duo has called it quits as a twosome. Now they are going at it alone. BUT FEAR NOT! Here is the official word…

After a year in the fast lane of the disco house revival, Josh Gard and Garrett Shingley have decided to part creative ways as Le Principle. The duo quickly flooded cyberspace with a slew of top tier productions which soon attracted our attention at Solid Bump Records. We quickly signed all the previously unreleased material the pair created. Blue Love is the final Le Principle song to be produced, but far from the end of the story. Both young producers will be continue to re-define the new generation of house music seperately as Adulture (Garrett) and Charlie Church (Josh).

Solid Bump Records chose to give away “Blue Love” to the masses because it is Le Principle’s perfect swan song and fully embodies all the things that made us decide to work with the young duo from the start. Their signature style of sampling, heavy knocking drums, and perfectly tailored groove based sensibilities are fully exemplified in “Blue Love”.

Adulture
Garrett will resume his previous alias, Adulture, continuing to produce his unique brand of stomping house. In turn, Solid Bump Records will be unleashing the long awaited Paper Cat single July 27th 2010. Paper Cat, features 3 huge remixes from Sammy Bananas, Bit Funk, and The Phantom’s Revenge.

Charlie Church
Josh will continue producing bass music as Figure, as well as launching the Charlie Church moniker for his disco-house creations. He recently released “Girl” on One for All Records gathering a bit of notice last month.

Free Le Principle Edit & A New Member of the Solid Bump Family

Last week Le Principle dropped another stellar edit on the world. It’s a reworking of the 1979 Machine classic “But For The Grace of God”.  This is a top notch edit and 100% dancefloor ready.

Clayton from White Girl Lust also had a big release. The birth of his first born child. It’s definitely best work to date and we expect that it will continue to be a really big release for him for decades to come. Congrats! In homage of his family, here is my fave track on the subject of children.

Telephoned & Sammy Bananas at Harlot SF 4/28

Next week Solid Bump is hooking up with Hacksaw Ent. to host the SF debut of Telephoned (of Fools Gold Rec). If you don’t know Telephoned consist of Maggie Horn on vocals and Sammy Bananas on the beat. The two tear through live covers of everyone from T-Pain to Kid Sister. White Girl Lust will be doing a hybrid dj/live set – unveiling some new tracks with Alona on vocals. The #1 homie Shane King will be opening up the evening.

What is more, there is a free open bar from 7-10, so you know things will be slapping by the end of that session. We recommend calling in the next day.

Also, Sammy Bananas has done a remix for Le Principle and OCD Automatic’s HUGE Paper Cat single – forthcoming in June. The remix is OUT OF CONTROL – with a sultry vox drop and wailing sax. To tempt you here is a clip of the unmastered version.

Unsigned Hype: Le Principle & Ghosts of Venice – You Got Me

So, firstly, don’t get it twisted – we love this track – even though it is not currently signed to Solid Bump. In fact we are not certain when or where it will be made commercially available. Regardless, it is top notch and deserves some shine.

That being said, Le Principle & OCD Automatic’s debut single for Solid Bump – “Paper Cat” – is in mastering and will be hitting the streets soon! Monday we will unveil a clip of the AWESOME remix from Sammy Bananas.

Additionally, Solid Bump will be releasing a new version of Ghosts of Venice’s “Her” with remixes from White Girl Lust, Mykill, Moonchild, Bit Funk, and Mix Chopin.

For now – enjoy this unsigned hype.

Le Principle – Le Mix Vol.1

The dudes from Le Principle didn’t even bother to tell me they had done a mix – I had to just stumble upon it. I am glad I did. What’s so fun for me about this mix is that it’s almost 100% straight house music and hardly any disco loops. No hatred on the two bar loop – but sometimes its nice to just hear a good jacking beat, chopped vocal, and SH101 bassline. I was shocked when I saw Miguel Migs in the mix too. Whoa!

Le Principle – Division & Ashland (Free Download)

A surprise free track from Le Principle – this time exploring a more subtle funk to their recently released track on Pleasure & Pressure Vol.2. A funky melody and a jackin’ beat – what more does house need?

Le Principle Free Track & Interview

Wednesday is usually Nerd Alert time at Solid Bump, however this week we have something far more exciting. In continuing to build anticipation for the second installment of our label compilation Pleasure & Pressure, we are introducing the new players on the Solid Bump team for 2010. Here we introduce Le Principle!

This young duo emerged in 2009 with a huge sound that paid homage to their Chicago legacy of disco infused house, all while firmly pushing the envelope beyond what could be simply labeled a “throwback” sound. An initial fury of free releases soon caught the attention of music blogs worldwide, while also attracting the keen ears of DJs such as Louie La Roche, Kissy Sell Out, and DJ Ayres. Most recently “You Can’t Fake It” has appeared as a staple in Treasure Finger’s live sets.

Their debut single, Paper Cat (co-produced by OCD Automatic), will feature remixes by Sammy Bananas, The Phantom’s Revenge, Bit Funk, and more. Le Principle will also be appearing on Tommie Sunshine‘s new Brooklyn Fire imprint, as well as the pinnacle of Chicago house labels, the infamous Trax Records.

For now, please enjoy this free exclusive 320 MP3 entitled “You Can’t Fake It” to give yourself a taste of what is to come from the most exciting young act in the new era of infectious Chicago disco house. Le Principle takes Geraldine Hunt and flips her upside down.

An Interview with Le Principle:

Solid Bump Records: Le Principle members?

Le Principle: Garrett and Josh.

SBR: Previous releases/ projects?
LP: Garrett as Adulture & Nude Beach. Josh as DJ Figure.

SBR: What are some of your major influences?
LP: Bossa Nova, Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Mad Chester, DIY hardcore, even doo-wop.

SBR: How does the current “Disco House” revival distinguish itself from the style of a decade ago?
LP: There is a difference between just taking obvious samples and sticking a drum beat behind it and creating something unheard of. The generations before us recognized this and in our opinion their tracks will be timeless. By combining what past influences have showed us and recent technology, we can take the next step from where they left off.

SBR: What is the process of a track? Where does it start? When is it done?
LP: It usually starts in a record store. Searching for dirty diamonds and gaining inspiration. We also get a lot of inspiration from the cities we inhabit, its all really personal to us and the output usually depends on the song.

SBR: What is your current gear set up?
LP: Roland Mc 909 Workstation, Roland Tb 303, Several Midi controllers and Ableton Live.

SBR: Is anyone notable championing your music?
LP: Treasure Fingers, Louis La Roche, Tommie Sunshine, Grum, Kissy Sell Out, Sammy Bananas, DJ Ayres, etc.

SBR: What attracted you to Solid Bump Records?

LP: The aesthetic and focus on building a brand rather than making money.

SBR: Give us a link to a song that you consider “one of the greatest”.

Le Principle & Ghosts of Venice @ Santos NYC

Last week Le Principle & our visiting UK homie Ghosts of Venice hopped over to NYC to play the Discovery party at Santos. I had recently learned Santos was co-owned by Andrew WK. Much to my delight, my dream was answered and he was there. Not only that but Lee and Garrett did their duty, and got a picture with him. It was everything I dreamt it could be. You can check more pics from the event here.

Later that week Ghosts of Venice hopped over to play a show on Joystyxx Radio in Chicago. He even tossed in Meroz’s remix of “True Love” by Laberge on Solid Bump.

You can catch Le Principle & Ghosts of Venice at Axis in Columbus Ohio tonight and tomorrow at Trick Disco in Chicago.
