Casual Days – that is totally true. Laberge might not have a new EP but he is not slumping. Instead he is steadily feeding the internetz with a slew of new material ALL FOR FREE. If you don’t take a listen – you are a damn fool. The scat-ish vocal coupled with the uber-funky bassline is reason enough to love it… and I could come up with 1000 other reasons you should listen. It’s summer? Oh no one told San Francisco.
Laberge – he may only do a few official releases a year but his generosity keeps him pure. Let’s all hope this electro-funk tinged flavor is a trend he keeps up for his next Solid Bump release.
Things have been busy over at SBR HQ and we are preparing a slew of new goodies for you. Coincidentally Laberge gave us this track – appropriately titled “Intermission”. It’s a bit of something different from the Vancouver bad man – this one almost borders on Boards of Canada territory. So sit back and relax.
Later this week we will have a new Nerd Alert, footage from the Erol Alkan show, and the unveiling of Sammy Bananas “Paper Cat Remix” in celebration of the gig White Girl Lust is playing with him next week!
We said the Solid Bump posse was on overdrive so far this spring. This time Laberge is up to bat with a bit something even deeper than his usual fair. It’s a stellar remix of an unlikely source – 90′s songstress Monica.
Phew, we survived SXSW and had a great time. While we were away Clayton from WGL wrapped up a piece of modern cinema brilliance – the trailer video for Pleasure & Pressure Vol.2. It gives you a little glimpse of what we look like in the real world and what our daily lives are like at Solid Bump. Just keeping it real, ya know?
The EP has been getting an AMAZING response – currently it is #1 on the Turntable Lab charts as well as the “Release of the Moment”! Also big up to everyone who has been dropping it in their sets as well as those who said they were going to give it some burn in Miami! If you don’t have it, get it!
Pleasure & Pressure Vol. 2 featuring Le Principle, White Girl Lust, Alona, Mykill, Laberge, and Meroz!
At last the time has come. I have to say I am as excited as Octo-mom about our eighth release on Solid Bump. Our continuation of the Pleasure & Pressure series has hit digital music stores everywhere. We are so hot we got our art censored by iTunes, as well as 4 out of 5 fires on Turntable Lab! The iTunes staff made it up to us though and tossed us on the front page – so we’re cool. If you do buy from iTunes and want the unedited booty version of the art, be sure to right click the above image.
If you don’t know the deal on Pleasure & Pressure, check out this review by Snack at Turntable Lab…
“The Solid Bump gang are back with the second volume in the Pleasure & Pressure series. If you ain’t knowin’ bout this label’s uptempo disco and house cut-ups, then you better ask someboday! All the tracks here will get your party jumpin’ with quality filtered, cut up disco house business to make the people sweat. Check the heat from White Girl Lust, Le Principle, Laberge, Mykill and Meroz. If you were feelin those recent XXXchange edits, you gotta peep these. They don’t call it Solid Bump for nuthin’! Recommended.”
In celebration we are offering up another free track, this time is a floor stomper from our newest artist also featured on P&P2, Mykill! Enjoy this taste and then go grab the new release at your favorite retailer!
To be completely frank and somewhat embarrassed – I know very little about this Fred Falke jam. I do know it has yet to be released. I know Laberge did a bootleg of it. I know that Quinten 909 also did one. Seems if I am correct that this has not been released, perhaps ole Fred is a day late and a dollar short. Oh modern music – you never cease to amaze me.
That being said, we love Laberge and Quinten is a name to watch in 2010 as well. Let’s get on with it then…
In Vancouver for the Olympics? Tired of watching Apollo Ohno flaunt his soul patch? Laberge is throwin down at Shine with SBR favorite Utern. Put on your rocket skates and hit the dance floor.

Okay, that is a flagrant lie, but if you listen to the 0:31 of the track P Thugg jams over, you MIGHT notice it reminds you of Laberge’s “So Much More”.
Laberge never ceases to come correct. Yesterday we were informed his edit of Daft Punk’s “Something About You” had been floating in the Hype Machine Top 10 for the last few days. He was keeping very good company with the likes of The Smiths, MIA, DFA, Kid Cudi, and such. That was exciting and all but what really made my day was he alerted SBR HQ that he was letting out another free track to the interweb.
We all know Laberge for his attention to detail, second to none sample chops, and funky filtered basslines. Less displayed on his Solid Bump releases is his immaculate synth-work which is on prominent display in “Out There”. Although I hate the term to describe music there is definitely a “space” vibe about this new track – if space were funky. And maybe it is… I just have no proof.
