Paper Cat is out on the prowl – buy it today!

That’s right… at long last Paper Cat has dropped. This is a release that has had an epic amount of hype behind it, so without further ado, here is what the pros are saying…

“Solid Bump does it again! Adulture & OCD Automatic’s “Paper Cat” just kills it on that funky disco house tip, with a HUGE sound that’ll tear up the club. Seriously, everything is banging on this track from the filtered loop, the drums, synths, bass and arrangement, perfect stuff to mix in with any house or disco set. The original is already so good, but they decide to throw you some excellent remixes too including a wicked version from Fool’s Gold artist Sammy Bananas who adds some nice sax work(!) and Levan-style synths over the top taking it even higher! Don’t forget to check the chilled out Bit Funk remix and the amped up and beat-repeated Phantom’s Revenge remix as well. Recommended.”Turntable Lab Editors

“This is nastyyyyyyy… summer vibes gone wild!”Drop The Lime (Trouble & Bass)

“Man that’s great! I played the Sammy Bananas Mix of Paper Cat – nice one!” Stretch Armstrong (Plant Music)

“Really nice EP, feeling the acid house vibe of the Bananas one the most, will def give that a play!”
- Matt Walsh (Clouded Vision)

“Somewhere between Pryda and Bangalter, this release is as timeless, soulful, and as fresh sounding as anything I’ve heard this year.” Emynd (Crossfaded Bacon)

“I love it. Been running the original version in all my sets. Sammy’s mix is definitely next level though.”Thee Mike B

Clubfeet – Gold on Gold LP – Free Preview

A few years ago we randomly met a fellow named Jules who was into our Pleasure & Pressure Vol.1 release. He shared some music from his new band Clubfeet and mentioned they had just signed a deal with Plant Music. Since then we have stayed in touch and they have released two awesome singles. White Girl Lust even did a remix of the amazing “Count Your Lovers” that never came out.

Yesterday I got the word from Plant head honcho, Stretch Armstrong, that Clubfeet’s Gold on Gold LP was finally dropping on July 27th and they were offering up 5 songs for free. I highly recommend going to the link and checking out these free tracks, as it is definitely Solid Bump approved.

NERD ALERT – Great EQ Tutorial

As any Nerd Alert follower knows, we sing the praise of well thought out subtractive EQ. However, I remember a time not all that long ago that the concept  completely overwhelmed me. I think a lot of the problem was not fully understanding the idea of masking and such.

Yesterday, while killing time, I was perusing youtube videos. I came across this tutorial for Fab Filter’s Pro-Q EQ. Hands down it is one of the best and most straight forward EQ tutorials I have ever checked out. If I had seen this a few years ago things would have been way easier.

Now of course you don’t have to use the Pro-Q EQ – these principles will apply to any EQ – however I do hear good things about the Pro-Q.

Le Principle is DEAD! Free Download.

That is right, our beloved Le Principle duo has called it quits as a twosome. Now they are going at it alone. BUT FEAR NOT! Here is the official word…

After a year in the fast lane of the disco house revival, Josh Gard and Garrett Shingley have decided to part creative ways as Le Principle. The duo quickly flooded cyberspace with a slew of top tier productions which soon attracted our attention at Solid Bump Records. We quickly signed all the previously unreleased material the pair created. Blue Love is the final Le Principle song to be produced, but far from the end of the story. Both young producers will be continue to re-define the new generation of house music seperately as Adulture (Garrett) and Charlie Church (Josh).

Solid Bump Records chose to give away “Blue Love” to the masses because it is Le Principle’s perfect swan song and fully embodies all the things that made us decide to work with the young duo from the start. Their signature style of sampling, heavy knocking drums, and perfectly tailored groove based sensibilities are fully exemplified in “Blue Love”.

Adulture
Garrett will resume his previous alias, Adulture, continuing to produce his unique brand of stomping house. In turn, Solid Bump Records will be unleashing the long awaited Paper Cat single July 27th 2010. Paper Cat, features 3 huge remixes from Sammy Bananas, Bit Funk, and The Phantom’s Revenge.

Charlie Church
Josh will continue producing bass music as Figure, as well as launching the Charlie Church moniker for his disco-house creations. He recently released “Girl” on One for All Records gathering a bit of notice last month.

For now grab the FINAL Le Pee track from Soundcloud for FREE. And gear up for the future.

Free Magic’s Voules Random Mix

Free Magic Voules Random Mix

Good friend of Solid Bump and New York, Free Magic, just released a crushing disco mix for Voules Random. His mixes are always clean and funk driven, and this one will keep you moving all through the summer. Check it out and be sure to listen close for the upcoming remix by Bit Funk, of Ghost’s of Venice’s track ‘Her’.

Nerd Alert! Joris Voorn in the Studio

I love Joris Voorn’s productions. The mixes are cleaner than your sister before prom night, his arrangements tease the crowd, and they hit on the dancefloor in the most tasteful of ways. That is why I was stoked to stumble on this video of him going over his track “Sweep The Floor” with Future Music. He goes into great detail on a track by track basis on how he wrote the track.

Producer nerds, do yourselves a favor and watch and learn. Also be sure you check the other parts in his series.

Justin Martin on BBC Essential Mix

I have a lot of San Francisco pride. If you have read any of the below interviews with White Girl Lust, a huge source of inspiration comes from dirty bird. Although our sounds are a bit different, the way that the db team has built an internationally recognized brand is a big inspiration to how we try to present SBR. They have built a foundation around a core group of like minded musicians who often collaborate in a lot of different ways. They infused a sense of humor in tech-house, a genre which can undoubtedly take it’s self too seriously far too often.  They have a distinct sound as well as a visual aesthetic that is memorable. These are all things we have also tried to do with Solid Bump as it builds and grows.

All fan boy-ism aside, when I heard Justin Martin had done this weeks BBC Essential Mix – I was proud. I don’t follow sports and hardly understand the fan mentality but I imagine this is what it feels like when your home team goes to the world series. I don’t know this dude personally on any level but god-dammit – he is the hometown team and Essential Mix is the championships. Congrats dood.

Interview with SF Weekly

Last Friday Hacksaw Ent. joined up with Solid Bump Records to present Carte Blanche (i.e. Mehdi & Riton). The show was top notch and featured an opening set from Shane King (half of Hacksaw’s team) followed by Eric from White Girl Lust. His set wrapped up with a short performance by SBR’s resident Diva – Alona who was accompanied by the Counter Culture Collective dancers for a full blown Burlesque style show.

We have full video we will be posting soon, but for now, read the interview from SF weekly to get a bit of the inside scoop about the full collaboration.
