Hey geeks, it’s been a minute since our last nerd out. The blog has been so saturated with goodies from Pleasure & Pressure Vol.2 that there just wasn’t the space. But… here we go again – our series of quick and basic looks into elements of production nerdery. As always, these columns are just a fast intro to concepts. If something catches your interest, do some research and you will find much more in-depth articles.
So spring must be in the air – because the Solid Bump posse is getting wild all the sudden. All of our friends and family have been turning out an insane volume of material. Ghost of Venice, Le Principle, White Girl Lust… everyone! Be sure to check back here for a new Laberge remix tomorrow!
A surprise free track from Le Principle – this time exploring a more subtle funk to their recently released track on Pleasure & Pressure Vol.2. A funky melody and a jackin’ beat – what more does house need?
Just to show that Solid Bump can spread the love as well as receive it – we decided to shine a little light on one of our favorite up & coming producers again. Ghosts of Venice is getting to be well known for both his perfectly honed disco cut ups as well as his strangely enthusiastic “friendship” with Garrett from Le Principle. All jokes aside, truly he is a name to watch in 2010.
Below is a free download (just click the little arrow) of his edit of the classic - Spiller “GrooveJet”, which was used in Tommie Sunshine‘s WMC sampler. To make the deal even sweeter – peep the streaming preview of his official remix of Grum‘s epic “Can’t Shake This Feeling” which just dropped this week on Beatport.

It’s been such a wild 2 weeks of Pleasure & Pressure Vol.2 madness around here – we figured we should round out the week with something not from Solid Bump. Thus we present a pal of the SBR posse – former SFC super DJ and current Brooklyn dweller – Vin Sol.
Here is what Vin had to say about the mix:
So After making a bunch disco/rare groove mixes I decided it was time to make a mix that was more representative of what I play out in clubs and also wanted to showcase some of my own production as well as production from the CALiGULA project. So with that in mind I began working on WIZARD H.O.U.S.E.. I have always felt that the best DJ sets include a wide spectrum of music from the newest tunes to forgotten classics, and that is what you will find here. Enjoy…
Add onto that idea with some kick ass art from Dust La Rock and its a complete package. If you are down in Miami this weekend – catch Vin and cop a physical copy.
Our latest Bumpketeer, Mykill, has been getting a stellar response on his debut track “Love Story” of Pleasure & Pressure Vol.2. Local SF hype machine, SF Station, was so intrigued they tracked him down almost immediately to ask some questions.
If you have not grabbed his free track Flashback or his P&P mixtape, do it! Then pop over to SF Station to learn a bit more about the man and the myth.
Phew, we survived SXSW and had a great time. While we were away Clayton from WGL wrapped up a piece of modern cinema brilliance – the trailer video for Pleasure & Pressure Vol.2. It gives you a little glimpse of what we look like in the real world and what our daily lives are like at Solid Bump. Just keeping it real, ya know?
The EP has been getting an AMAZING response – currently it is #1 on the Turntable Lab charts as well as the “Release of the Moment”! Also big up to everyone who has been dropping it in their sets as well as those who said they were going to give it some burn in Miami! If you don’t have it, get it!

Wow, yesterday was an exciting day. Pleasure & Pressure fever was an epidemic and it ain’t over yet. We still have a few P&P II related surprises up our sleeve including an introduction to Mykill. If you didn’t grab his free track yesterday, be sure you click here to get a taste of what this up and comer has cooking. He also put together a P&P II inspired mixtape, which is posted below.
For now, lets check in with Mykill himself to get a little insight as to what he is all about.
Solid Bump Records: Age & Location? Mykill: 30 San Francisco
SBR: How did you connect with Solid Bump? M: I had met Eric (WGL) through the local dj scene and hung out a few times but never really talked about the label. I was dj’ing out in Phoenix one weekend and a friend of mine showed me the mix they did for XLR8R which featured the song “Blackout”. The song got stuck in my head so I hit him up over email to ask for the track at the same time mentioning that I had been writing similar music. After sending him some early tunes both Eric and Clay were interested in the sound I was going for and wanted to talk about putting some of it out. We all hit it off really well and shared the same vision for the music and label, from there I was asked to be a part of the roster.
At last the time has come. I have to say I am as excited as Octo-mom about our eighth release on Solid Bump. Our continuation of the Pleasure & Pressure series has hit digital music stores everywhere. We are so hot we got our art censored by iTunes, as well as 4 out of 5 fires on Turntable Lab! The iTunes staff made it up to us though and tossed us on the front page – so we’re cool. If you do buy from iTunes and want the unedited booty version of the art, be sure to right click the above image.
If you don’t know the deal on Pleasure & Pressure, check out this review by Snack at Turntable Lab…
