Last week Eric of WGL and Dj Mykill got funky on their iphones for Bpm Magazine’s Mp3 player battle. The event was hosted in SF for the first time by Fools Gold artist, Trackademics. Crews included VINTAGE 415, SHOTWELL, BLOWFISH, GREEN GORILLA LOUNGE, DESIGNER DJS, OM RECORDS, OPULENT TEMPLE, LIGHTS DOWN LOW and SOLID BUMP RECORDS.
Ultimately SBR didn’t pull out a win, but come on, who wants to be the best ipod dj really???????

Been hard at work here at the Solid Bump Records’ “offices” creating promo packs, videos, newsletter blasts, and web upgrades. A couple of the videos we have in the oven to promote Laberge’s second release on SBR are especially exciting for me. I decided to test the new youtube feature in snow leopard and upload a teaser vid to get y’all hype for the release!
Laberge’s This Feeling drops in digi-stores worldwide October 27th. Here is Track 3 “We Don’t Know”. This song has restored my love of fretless bass.
Light a candle and squeeze your girl tight….

Several years ago my wife (then girl friend) and I were in D.C. hitting up the sites with a friend who was living there at the time. Lia’s friend took me to this tiny record shop in Alexandria so I could nerd out on music. I was digging around and in the Talking Heads section and found this elusive single.
I am from Lawrence KS and we have a super dope record shop called The Love Garden so I thought nothing of asking the guy running the shop “What the fuck is this???”.
His response is one of those classic record shop moments that make me buy my music online. “YOU don’t know this?!?!?! How can you say you like Talking Heads and not have heard this! You HAVE to check it out!”.
He put the record on right beneath a sign that literally read “DON’T EVEN ASK TO LISTEN TO THIS”.
Damn, that shit was funky. So naturally i agreed and said I’d take it. The dude told me that he decided it wasn’t for sale and he had a friend that would probably appreciate it more than me!
Took me 2 years to track that mess down! So, to insure this doesn’t happen to you I give you, Slippery People – as preformed by The Staple Singers.

Last week I stopped by Triple Crown to drop a DJ set at the new night Studio SF hosted by LOW SF & Go Bang. It was a awesome party. People got their soul clap on during “Chicago”, sang along to “aNYway”, and served up shots to the DJ. What more do you want?

Next time you reach for Ny Lipps, or just plain old Funky Town, be still thy hand. An overlooked gem on Lipps inc.’s second LP is “Tight Pair”. This shit is balls to the wall Minneapolis Funk from 1980. One of my favorite warehouse gig songs of all time. Guitar and Clavinet can’t be beat. Funk on It @320 below!!!

Funky new track from Vancouver based Solid Bumper, Laberge. I love this tune, it reminds me of an old favorite by Plaid on Warp for some weird reason, except this takes the funk up about 50 bpm and 200 degrees. Eric and I just got the Wav’s back from our mastering guy today for Laberge’s first EP on Solid Bump. The Ep is called “This Feeling” and that’s what it’s about… (Semi obscure David Byrne quote) The EP hits personal computer music stores around the world this October. Naturally I have a copy and let me tell you, the mess is funky!
Check out the latest track below.

Last May Eric & I combined forces with half man half unicorn Mike Payne’s promotion company The Bad Crowd to do a Solid Bump Records label Launch in Denver. The event featured: custom glow in the dark cartoon porn t-shirts, Mike and Rosa in matching Space Cadet uniforms from Elton John’s closet, Local denver warehouse hero Allejandro, White Girl Lust, and Dreday!
As I often do I came up with an elaborate marketing idea that would be super easy to execute ; ) Custom Gold Tapes! The tapes would be all vinyl from the time period of the tape. My premise was “what would I have rocked in 1983?” After about 6 more hours of work than anticipated, trying to find a place in town that would do a quick turn around of cassette tapes, and Eric doing multiple runs to kinkos at 9:00 night of the show, we had 150 gold tapes with one bad funkin’ live vinyl set on em.
This mix is Side A of the tape.
enjoy!
